How BSR Works

BSR CORPORATE INFORMATION
BSR is a not-for-profit business founded in 2007. It has completed a two year set up stage and is ready for a BSR Launch Summer 2010. It is a management co-operative set up under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act whose members, through a central office and accounting system, seek to rationalise their fixed and variable costs by providing services/commodities and/or having similar services/commodities provided/supplied for them by other members.  BSR is a Business Club operating through a set of common sense rules and depending for operating efficiency on enlightened management, regularly updated computer based invoicing and accountancy practices and a continuous communication process between members and BSR management. All payments are made making use of the inter bank direct debit (BACS) and direct credit (ACP) payment systems. This method of payment has become a cash flow attraction to many supply businesses that are able to offer optional competitive terms via a BSR account.

BUSINESS STRUCTURE

BSR is run by an elected Board of Directors (min 6, max 10) one third of whom are up for re election at each AGM. The Board in turn contract Manager (Alastair Cranston) and  will consider supporting staff as and when required.

BSR, acting as agent of its members, aims to sustain and improve the business viability of its members by:

Rationalisation : encouraging and facilitating efficiency of investment and use of labour, machinery and commodity provision through inter member contracting/trading.
Input cost control : negotiating competitive prices for private and business inputs by pooling members’ requirements and through the ring’s co-ordination and payment systems.
Communications : continually improving communication links between BSR and members to improve and expand the benefits of full use of the Ring’s services.
Innovation : making use of the collective strengths and resources of members to research and innovate new enterprises both in the Borders and nationally, working with Scottish Enterprise and other developmental local and national organisations.
Marketing : being active when appropriate, in the promotion of the Borders as having a clear marketable identity and by evolving a quality image which will be used to enhance the value of member to member services.
BSR will develop through effective, enthusiastic but diplomatic communication.
